Are you suffering from high blood pressure? It’s never fun monitoring your blood pressure daily, isn’t it? Isn’t it annoying going to the bathroom to empty your bladder every hour (at least it seems like it) if you are on lisinopril (relaxes blood vessels) hydrochlorothiazide (water pill)?

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension can impair the kidney function and cause pain in the legs.

Did you know regular chiropractic adjustment can help with high blood pressure?

Many of us know a chiropractor as a “spine doctor” that helps in the diagnosis and treatment of neuromuscular disorders through the manipulation or adjustment of the spine. The philosophy behind this chiropractic care is that body naturally seeks balance in its organs to function properly. In order for the body to function properly, its structure should be taken care of. If any part of vertebrae is injured due to an accident, its corresponding functions can be affected.

When the vertebrae of the spine are subluxated (slight or partial dislocation), it can irritate and cause damage to the spinal nerves. When spinal nerves are damaged, they can further affect tissues and organs. Thus, a chiropractor’s emphasis not only lies in getting rid of the pain but also is on restoring the normal functioning of the spine and enhance the normal functioning of human body.

High blood pressure is a serious condition

The force with which the blood pushes against the wall of the arteries is called blood pressure. It can cause heart diseases, stroke, kidney failure, heart failure, and other health problems.

Blood pressure is measured as systolic and diastolic. Systolic pressure refers to blood pressure when the heart pumps the blood while diastolic pressure means blood pressure when the heart is at rest that is; between the two beats.

Our blood pressure does not stay the same the entire day. It lowers when a person sleeps and rises when they wake up. Blood pressure also tends to rise when a person is excited, nervous or anxious.

If someone is diagnosed with high blood pressure, the doctors mostly recommend medication as treatment. There are also some side effects of using medication for high blood pressure.

How a chiropractic help with high blood pressure

The best part?

A chiropractor helps to align your spine in such a way that it affects your blood pressure and helps to treat it.

The procedure involves adjustment of a vertebra of the spine. When the vertebras are not aligned properly, it can cause headache, back pain and neck pain. The chiropractor’s job is to relocate and align the spine so the neuromuscular and cardiovascular system can function properly.

In 2007, the Journal of Human Hypertension published a study that demonstrated a significant decrease in blood pressure of patients that received chiropractic treatment. The study involved 50 participants with high blood pressure were given chiropractic treatment. The results showed that the improvement in blood pressure continued for at least eight weeks after the treatment. The participants’ blood pressure was monitored on the day of the treatment as well as during check-up after eight weeks.

Thus, it is very crucial for optimal health and proper functioning of the body that our spine is properly aligned, which allows the nervous system to work at its maximum potential.
